Bobbie Sonefeld — Winner Of 50th Anniversary Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest
The winning recipe was created by Roberta (Bobbie) Sonefeld, “soccer
mom” from Hopkins, S.C. Sonefeld competed against 99 other finalists at
America’s most prestigious cooking contest, which took place in San
Francisco February 28. Her million dollar recipe wowed the judges by
combining two of America’s favourite desserts – cheesecake and brownies.
The judges at the competition, who included famed restaurateur and
television personality B. Smith and the food editor of Ladies’ Home
Journal, Jan Turner Hazard, saluted Bobbie’s recipe as “a combination of
indulgence and convenience.”
Sonefeld’s original recipe, which she says is “simple, inexpensive, and
my two sons love it,” uses the Pillsbury Thick ‘n Fudgy Hot Fudge Swirl
Deluxe Brownie Mix and Pillsbury Refrigerated Pie Crust to keep the
preparation time to less than 15 minutes. The pie competed in the Fast &
Fabulous
Desserts & Treats category.
The Pillsbury BAKE-OFF(R) Contest is held every two years and offers the
highest monetary award of any American cooking competition.
For the first time in its history, the Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest
allowed contestants entering the 50th-Anniversary competition to submit
their recipes online at www.bakeoff.com. One third of all participants
e-mailed their entries.
On April 14th, Sonefeld hosted a Chat on Yahoo.com.
