Actress, singer, and content creator Indi Star chatted about her new single and music video for “Hurt a Little.”
The music video features a cameo from Blake Manning as her former boyfriend.
She is known for her role as “Kimmie” in Nickelodeon’s Henry Danger and for being a series regular role in “Charmers” on Brat TV.
How did “Hurt a Little” come about?
“Hurt A Little” is a song about the perceived imbalance of pain after a breakup. One person has this devastation that the relationship is over, and it seems like the other person is just unfazed.
It’s a song of broken relationships that leaves you questioning what the relationship even meant to the other person.
What was it like to have Blake Manning in the song’s music video with you?
Blake is a really talented guy, and he did an amazing job as the role of “ex-boyfriend.” The role was actually pretty physically and emotionally demanding, and he nailed the part. So happy and lucky to have him be a part of this music video.
What inspires your music and songwriting?
The main inspiration for my music is just life in general and translating my thoughts and emotions into music and lyrics that other people can connect with and just make them feel something powerful.
I love getting the feedback from others that they connect with my music. It makes all the hard work worth it for sure.
What do your plans for the future include?
My future plans are to just keep moving ahead with my music, my acting and my content creation. You know, it’s like this never-ending cycle of creation that really never gets old.
As I grow and change and experience life, I get to document everything in my music, acting and social media accounts that just turns into this giant journal of my life that I get to share with so many people.
How does it feel to be an artist in the digital age? (Now with streaming, technology, and social media being so prevalent)
It’s such a hard question because I really grew up in the digital social media age and I really don’t know any different. I really do appreciate all the technology and information available at your fingertips.
I feel like there are definite negative things about this whole social media world we all live in, but it really is such an amazing tool to connect with other people in such a self-controlled way.
It’s really kind of amazing to be able to reach out and interact with people around the entire world in seconds.
I actually have so many friends that I have met online in so many different parts of the world and it’s really cool to have a glimpse inside all of their lives and to see so many different ways of living.
Which artists would you like to do a dream duet with someday?
There are so many artists that I look up to and would love to duet with someday. Right now, I really like Lizzy McAlpine, Gracie Abrams, Genevieve Stokes, Phoebe Bridgers and of course Taylor Swift.
I would also love to work with Conan Gray or Lewis Capaldi.
What does the word success mean to you?
Success to me is a feeling of fulfillment in my accomplishments. It is little things and big things and I think it will always be in a state of change.
I try not to put a specific outcome on my expectation of what success will be, but I really do just try to enjoy the ride and find my success along the path.
What would you like to tell our readers about “Hurt a Little”? (What’s the one thing you want them to get out of it)
I really hope that people can listen to the song and really just feel something that connects them to the lyrics. I’m really proud of this song and music video and I feel it is a good representation of where I came from and where I am going with my music!
Thank you so much for having me and go stream “Hurt A Little” on all major music platforms and go watch the music video on YouTube.
