“The Dirty South” is a new action thriller starring Willa Holland and Shane West.

It was just released in theaters and On Demand on November 10, 2023, via Cineverse. Dermot Mulroney and Mike Manning (who serves as an executive producer) also star in the movie.

Writer and director Matthew Yerby did a solid job with its screenplay and direction respectively.

The synopsis is: Sue Parker (Willa Holland) finds herself in a desperate battle to save her family’s struggling business, which is on the brink of collapse due to her father’s neglect.

When a handsome drifter Dion, played by Shane West (“A Walk to Remember”) comes into town she sees him as the only chance to prevent their bar from falling into the hands of Jeb Roy, a ruthless local tycoon (Dermot Mulroney).

What starts as a simple plan to save her family, quickly spirals into larceny, lawlessness and deadly consequences.

The Verdict

Overall, “The Dirty South” is a compelling new crime action film from start to finish. Matthew Yerby gives every actor his or her own characterization and it works.

Willa Holland is badass as Sue Parker and she steals every scene she is in; moreover, she is Jennifer Lawrence-caliber good in it where the viewer can slightly recall “Winter’s Bone.”

Dermot Mulroney portrays the nefarious tycoon in a controlled manner, and Shane West delivers as Dion. It is recommended for fans of mystery, suspense, crime, action, and thriller movies. “The Dirty South” garners four out of five stars.
