Smiles Dental Group Explains the Newly Launched Canada Dental Care Plan in Edmonton

PRESS RELEASE
Published January 8, 2024

Smiles Dental Group, a dental practice in Edmonton, AB, Canada, has explained the newly launched $13 billion Canadian dental care plan (CDCP) in a new blog post. They fully understand the importance of this development and that this can mean an overwhelming change for Canadians. This new federal program has the purpose of covering the routine dentistry costs and it is not restricted to basic dental services, but it also includes a broad variety of dental procedures and treatments. More about Smiles Dental Group can be gleaned from their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/smilesdentalgroup.

The initiative will initially focus on kids under 18 years of age and some senior citizens. Beginning in December 2023, they will also focus on the elderly who are 87 years old and above. This will be followed by those between the ages of 77 to 86 in January 2024, and then those whose ages range from 72 to 76 in February 2024 and those whose ages range from 70 to 71 in March 2024. By 2025, they expect the coverage to include all eligible low- and middle-income citizens in Canada.

The government has appointed Sun Life Financial as the service provider for the CDCP. Sun Life will be responsible for managing applications, processing the claims, and making sure that beneficiaries are given access to the covered dental services. The partnership with Sun Life is expected to streamline the administrative aspects of the plan to make it easier for eligible Canadians to get the dental care they require.

To be eligible for the CDCP, Canadians should have a household income of less than $90,000 and don’t have access to private insurance. The plan is particularly generous for families with incomes under $70,000, providing them with full coverage without co-pays for a range of dental services. Those in higher income brackets will have co-pay rates, based on their income level. To ensure fairness and to adjust to changing economic conditions, eligibility for the CDCP will be reassessed every year

CDCP will cover a wide range of dental services, such as: preventive services like cleaning and fluoride treatments; restorative services such as fillings; endodontic services including root canal treatments; diagnostic services including examinations and X-rays; periodontal services and oral surgery; and prosthodontic services, including dentures.

In response to the CDCP, Alex Yeh from Smiles Dental Group says, “This federal initiative aims to fill gaps in the current system without replacing existing provincial and territorial programs. The plan’s success hinges on the committed participation of dental professionals. The government intends to run an education campaign to inform and encourage oral health professionals to sign up, but Smiles is already on board. Our team is undergoing training to understand the nuances of the plan, ensuring seamless service to our patients. We’re also updating our systems to align with the CDCP’s administrative requirements.”

The dental care providers at Smiles Dental Group are committed to ensuring that their patients are well-informed and help them navigate the new changes. As more details about the CDCP become available, they will continue to update their patients on how this program can benefit them and how they can access the available services. They view the CDCP as a wonderful opportunity to fulfill their mission of offering dental care to anyone who needs it, so patients can expect Smiles Dental to be a credible source of information regarding the CDCP.
